Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the most common questions clients ask before starting their plan.

GENERAL ESTATE PLANNING

What if I don’t know what I need?

Start with the free quiz. It takes 2 minutes and will point you in the right direction. Still unsure? You can always book a quick call with me first.

Are you an attorney?

No — and I don’t pretend to be. I don’t give legal advice. I use software built by estate planning attorneys, and I focus on helping you make smart financial decisions and understand your options. If you ever need a lawyer, I’ll let you know upfront.

What if I mess something up?

Don’t worry — I’ll help you review everything before it’s finalized. And nothing is legally binding until it's signed, so you’ve got time to make corrections.

What’s the difference between a Will and a Trust?

A Will goes through probate — a Trust avoids it. Wills take effect after death; Trusts work now and later. If you want control, privacy, and to skip court, you probably want a Trust.

Do I need a lawyer for this?

Nope. These plans are written by estate attorneys and valid in all 50 states. You’re not getting generic forms — you’re getting real legal tools without the $3-10,000 bill.

Is this legally valid in my state?

Yes. These are attorney-written documents designed to meet state-specific legal requirements. You’ll just need to follow the final signing instructions for your state.

What if I already have a Will or Trust?

Great — then we’ll review what you have and tell you if anything’s missing, outdated, or incomplete. Most plans we review still leave gaps (or go straight to probate).

Can I update my plan later?

Yes — and here’s how it works:

Unlimited changes to your Will or Trust during your first year

Healthcare Directives should be updated every 2 years — and that’s always free

Power of Attorney? Also always free to update

Do I have to do it all at once?

Nope — you can go at your own pace. But a word of caution: nothing is legally valid until it’s signed, so don’t put it off. Finish your plan so it can actually protect you.

What happens if someone dies without a Will or Trust?

The state decides who gets everything — and it’s rarely how you’d want it. There’s no privacy, and the process can drag out in probate court for months (or years). That’s why even a basic Will is better than no plan at all.

SHARING, STORAGE, AND PRIVACY

Is this private?

Yes. Your information stays 100% confidential. Only you (and anyone you choose to share it with) will ever see your plan or documents.

Can I share my plan with family or advisors?

Yes. You can give access to your spouse, adult children, or professional advisors — whoever needs to be in the loop.

Will I receive a physical copy of my plan?

Yes. I’ll mail your full plan in a premium binder when it's ready to be signed. You’ll also be able to download it instantly.

What is the storage vault, and why does it matter?

The vault keeps everything in one place — your plan, key contacts, final wishes, and even emergency access info.

The vault is one of the most valuable parts of your plan. It helps you:

Store critical info in case you’re ever incapacitated

Give your trustee or executor everything they need to settle your estate

Keep your documents and records organized in one place — just update your financial details once a year and you’ll always know where everything is

TRUST-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS

Does the Trust package include help with my home?

Yes — your Trust package includes all the documents needed to transfer your home into the Trust. This ensures it avoids probate and passes smoothly to your beneficiaries without court delays.

What’s a Pour-Over Will?

It’s a backup for your Trust. If something accidentally gets left out, the Pour-Over Will catches it and moves it into the Trust after death.

What’s a Certificate of Trust?

It’s a simplified version of your Trust that you can give to banks and institutions — without revealing private details.

Can I include special provisions in my plan?

Yes — we can include things like special needs trusts, guardianship, pet care instructions, or even business succession.

LIFE SITUATIONS AND “WHAT IFs”

What if I move to a different state later?

You should review and possibly re-sign your plan. I’ll help you make updates if needed.

Can I set up a plan without my spouse?

Yes — you can create an individual Will or Trust. If you’re married, you can do a joint plan or individual plans, whichever fits best.

How do I name a guardian for my kids?

That’s part of the Will or Trust. You’ll get to legally name someone to care for your children if anything happens to you.

What if I own property in more than one state?

A Trust can prevent probate in multiple states by consolidating everything under one legal structure.

Can I set up a pet trust?

Yes — you can include instructions and funds to care for your pets. This ensures your furry (or feathered!) family members are looked after according to your wishes.

What if I’m not ready to commit?
